Craig
Markham was worked as a Police Constable in Ontario, Canada, for over
fifteen years and still enjoys his job. His dedication to the job comes
as a result of the support from his team and is enhanced by his
goal-oriented perspective on life. When he considers which aspects of
his life prepared him to become a policeman, he believes that his
physical fitness and love of sports helped him the most.
During
high school, he enjoyed playing baseball, hockey and judo, and today
still volunteers as a judo teacher for a self defense school. These
sports gave him a range of physical abilities to draw from, and he
believes that his endurance levels were higher than other training
policemen as a result. He graduated at the top of his class from Ontario
Police College, with an average of 97.3%.
Physical
fitness and increased abilities were not the only reasons his sporting
background was useful, as he also found that the mental benefits of
exercise made training much easier. He had strong mental stamina and an
ability to push himself out of his comfort zone that some of the other
trainees lacked. Today, he still exercises regularly and sees the mental
benefits in the positive, driven attitude that he brings to work.
Craig
Markham believes that physical fitness and regular exercise are
essential for all Law Enforcement workers. His love of sports has helped
him throughout his career. In field work, it has been especially useful
but the mental benefits are also reflected in increased investigative
ability.
